Pulse Racing MX5 2010 Season
In 2010 the Leamington Spa based team 'Pulse Racing MX5' is competing in the
MaX5 Championship
in a legendary Mk1 Mazda MX5. Graham Grove is driving for the team
in this his second season in an MX5 championship. The MaX5 championship
caters for both the original Mk1 and the latest Mk3 incarnation of the
nation’s favourite drop top.
With Brands Hatch in early June being cancelled it was Mallory Park for
the second time this season which saw an action packed races for Rounds
6 & 7 of the Championship.
The drizzly qualifying obviously did not favour a slightly cautious
approach as Graham found himself 8th on the grid for race 1. Following
a lightening start Graham lept to 5th after the first corner managing
to find some grip around the outside of the ultra fast first
corner 'Gerrards'. A great battle with last season's champion Nick
Wright commenced with many corners being taken two abreast before a
loose plug lead put paid to Nick's part in the battle and Graham
gaining one more place toward the end of the race to finish 4th (3rd
class A).
In Race 2 a second strong start, this time from the 2nd row, resulted
in a three abreast first corner with Graham having to drop in
behind the lead cars going into The Essess complex. A massive battle
commenced for the rest of the race with three or four places regularly
swapping before Graham eventually was pushed back into 6th crossing the
line (5th Class A).
The 3rd & 4th round of the Championship were held on the 16th May at
Cadwell Park in Lincolnshire. After a drizzly start to the day the sun
broke through to give a nice dry track for qualifying. After qualifying
1st in class and 5th overall (behind 4 mk3's) Graham made good use of
his grid position maintaining 1st in class to the line and forth
overall.
In the second race of the day Graham's first race finish position
determined his grid position in the second. From the second row of the
grid Graham tried hard to stay in touch with the lead pack of mk3's but
was eventually gapped and left to finish clear of the chasing pack
with his forth straight win of the season
(watch Round 4 here).
The 2010 season kicked off on the 18th April with a double header at
Mallory Park, Leicestershire. Pulse Racing MX5 got off to the best
possible start to the season with two class wins & narrowly missing
out on two overall race wins.
